First time posting to the Critique Gallery, be gentle :).
One of my sailing friends, part of a group that gets together at the lake on the weekends and performs.
This is pretty much the look I was after in my minds eye.
Composition is great, has everything needed in the right place. You have captured the moment very well and you can feel the passion for what he is doing in his eye. (What is he singing?)
The highlights are perfect, but there isnt much shadow detail. How thin was the negative? Thin negs are the worst to try and print. If there is some shadow detail, I would try and dodge the side of his face a tad, also the mike and left arm, just because you can......or if you cant or dont want to, dont worry too much.....and the print might be better, they usually are.
Thanks for posting in Critique, discussing content is always interesting.... for me anyhow.
Thanks for the comments guys. The negative was a bit thin and not much shadow detail to pull out. I did take this one back in the darkroom and burned down the bright post and upper left corner a little.
I'll probably play with this one again and see what else I can get out of it.
@Larry the sailor Sometimes if you stop right down you can get enough time to do a slight dodge with out losing the blacks, sometimes its just a 12th of a stop difference. Think it might help punch out from the background.......obviously talking through my limited experience.
