Down to Light

This is my first AZO print! I used grade 2 and I created the negative digitally; developed in Edwald Ultra Black. The image I chose is one I took in New Orleans (2003) and a tripod would have been a good idea but since I didn't have one with me at the time, I did the best I could. It's not as sharp as I would have liked and it is grainy but I felt those "flaws" worked with this particular subject. Gee, my next AZO print will have to be of something more 'technically correct' but I am pleased with the results I am getting with my preliminary experiments. Thanks for looking!

Thanks Eric! I learned how to make digital negatives via Dan Burkholder's method and I print them on Olympus OHP transparency film. And I chose Edwald because it was 1) available from my local camera shop 2) it's concentrated so I just mix up what I need which cuts down on waste and it's more economical 3) because it seemed like a good compromise for my experiments and 4) because you can warm it up or cool it down depending on your mix ratio.

You don't have to make excuses for how you made the negative! I think it's great to combine the old and new tech together. Thing is once you work with Amidol you will see how easy it is. I even use it with other papers! Makes using graded papers a snap. Good first try.

Beautiful photograph with great atmosphere.

Nice interesting image! It looks somewhat "Old time" to me.

Like I mentioned in your thread, I can see the effects of using Edwal UB with AZO. You get somewhat a charcoal, dusty looking image. Althought it works very well with this subject, it may not work well with others. When you get around to trying the amidol, make sure you do not add too much Potassium Bromide in the developer, as your prints will be more green/warm tone then the cool tone you are achiving.

Good luck and keep us posted!
