doorway

an otherwise dingy urban landscape on the front side of this building kept hidden this doorway on the back. i was captivated by the shape of the entrance, it seemed out of context to the buildings around.

This is a subject that cries out for a sharper rendering. I recently purchased a Holga, and I'm having a lot of fun with it. Love doing stuff like cemeteries, sailboats, etc. This is a very interesting photo, but I feel that another tool could have been used to better advantage. Keep shooting my friend!

I like the image, well seen, and well presented here. If the print is as nice as the scan, it'l be a dandy1

I have to disagree with Don Mills -- yes, I can see this being done with a view camera using swings and front rise to bring everything into architectural perfection, but I think the image is actually stronger with the corner softening and DOF limitations; they give a dream-like quality that could only be achieved with the high end equipment by deliberately making "wrong" movements. I would have liked to see another half stop or so exposure to pick up texture in the shadowed walk area, but perhaps its there in the print and just not picked up by the scan (and yes, I know, you don't have that much exposure control with a Holga -- if it were me, I'd have shot this scene with my Speedex Jr., which would give that control, but then I'd have lost the edge softening and some of the atmosphere). A little careful dodging might do the job, if there's anything in the negative there...
