Thank you ! The big negative can record amazing textures when the light is right. The trick is printing them so you can make them shine. This image is printed for the reflection on the weather-polished door. The ZoneVI timer I use allows for small adjustmenrs in exposure, to home in on exactly the desired tone.
I used to think the difference between a Minox print, and an 8x10 print wouldn't be obvious on the web. But, no more! The detail and clarity are really worth the trouble and expense of the big ass negative. This has both in abundance, and it's an interesting image as well. This is evidently a contact print as you've included the rebate, but do you also enlarge your negatives?
I don't have an 8x10 enlarger (yet), but I've had the chance to print a few negatives to 16" x 20". That is only a 2x enlargement; the equivalent of printing a 5"x7" postcard from medium format. The level of detail becomes even more obvious. As much as contact printing displays the glow and presence of these big negs., their big prints are just mindblowing.
