A beautiful haunting image.

Haunting, yes. Was fumbling to describe brooding emotion, evocative. Like your mudflat shot, sharp/soft focus locations combine to visually pour salt on the tongue.

This reminds me of the pictures taken during WW1 showing the desolate land after years of fighting. Only a few bare trees still stood.

@ Andrew. It's an image that has stuck in my mind. I also have a CD somewhere of Ein Deutsches Requiem (a very said piece of music) by Brahms that has a similar image on the cover. Your photograph is extremely good.

This is so good on so many levels: composition, mood and technique ! Great work ! Is this a negative scan, or is it from a finished print ?

Thank you Tony and Peter! Peter, it's a straight scan with slight level adjustments. I have made a carbon transfer print directly from this negative and it's quite lovely... Unfortunately, I gave it away to a friend and have not made another one. It's not as sharp due to printing with the emulsion not in contact with the tissue, to preserve correct orientation. I have printed it emulsion to tissue, but I don't like it reversed. It's really sharp due to semi-stand development.

First thoughts on seeing this picture. Nicely done!
