Days of the Balrog

Days of the Balrog

That bloody balrog took me ages to build; four months to be exact. For the fun that Stef got out of it, the hard work was worth it. On the evening this picture was taken, we’d gone up to Baines Crag. Stef was gradually getting more and more camera shy as he got older. I had to resort to devious means to get his mugshot. The balrog was posed or I should say, placed in position with the pretence of my taking its picture. I think Stef got wise to my little ruse and was just about to scarper out of frame when I caught him. The glowering expression says it all. On a technical level, things were made a damn sight harder by the fact of my using Ilford SFX along with a visually opaque filter.

That is so cool!

Great shot. Aside from the overall image, which I love, the skin tones are really good. The glowing skin tones make for a nice contrast against the dark, menacing, beast.

Cheers!
