Dawn Bailey's Hard - lighter version

This image has received a 1 stop push having dev'd the original sheet (all in my jobo, so thanks to APUG members for their advice in getting this up and running). The intention being to open out the shadows whilst still retaining some tone in the lightest parts of the sky, which I just managed. My main observation is the mood change that this push has given.

If you haven't seen the darker version (in my portfolio and this gallery), the story goes....It was a bit of a panic to get set up in time and thought I'd missed it, but trusty old steed Velvia 50 worked its wonders again to save me.

Contrast was a bit tricky so I have placed a 0.9 hard grad over the sky and then a 0.9 soft grad down over the water and slipway trying to balance exposure with the leaves and seaweed on the diagonal pole, bottom left.
Location
Bailey's Hard, Beaulieu River
Equipment Used
Ebony SU45 90mm lens with Rear tilt + front drop.
Exposure
12s at f16 2/3
Film & Developer
Velvia 50 pushed 1 stop in Fotospeed 3 bath E6
Lens Filter
0.9 hard ND grad and 0.9 soft ND grad
I think I prefer the darker version, but, only just!

Did I say, "Wow!"???

WOW!

Yup: you done it again... This lighter version really has that end-of-the-day calm about it (OK, I just realised it's dawn but I'm an evening person...). How are the trees in the New Forest - probably getting a bit late now I guess for autumn colour? Cheers, Bob.

Baxter, this looks lovely, but I prefer the mood of the first image. Having seen both, the first one to me is more mysterious and sensuous. I don't mind the darkness in shadows and prefer it to this lighter shot.

I'm wondering if it is possible to use a similar approach with velvia, but the opposite. Have you played with added exposure and reduced development to see what happens? I don't know what this would do to saturation and highlights with velvia, but it would be interesting to see the effect on this type of shot. Again, well done. tim
