I made this picture back in 2007, and never printed it. I think I was more interested in the pictures where the kids weren't engaged with the camera. Been looking through my negs lately, and decided this would be worth a print. Scanned from a print that's a little bit bigger than my scanner, so the bottom is cropped. You can see a bit more of the baseball pj's he's wearing in the print. Comments are always appreciated.
The hands were out of the picture... they're not on the neg, and it was a conscious decision on my part to come in a little closer, cropping his hands. A no, no, I know, but I think it works here. (And I'm not one to cut hands off very frequently, as I think they can be extraordinarily expressive), but I was taken by the gesture of his torso and arms when I made this. Thanks for the comments.
Very nice, Suzanne...great job in seeing his expression and in the printing. Love the RZ at a wide aperture for portraits like this...not easy to do kids photography with it, especially hand-held (a beast at 6 pounds)!!!
Agree with all the others - this is beautiful at emotional, aesthetic and technical levels. Thanks for sharing! Just curious - were the curtains white, or off white, closer to the skin-tone value?
