Curious Doe

This was a shot from last fall that I finally got around to. I was hiking around the foothills here and was sort of followed by this curious doe.

I'm surprised that muley didn't take off in the opposite direction when you turned and looked at her. Years ago, in central Idaho, we were hunting mule deer and followed a buck's footprints for hours in the snow. Turns out he circled around and followed us, as we discovered when we stood up from a rest on a log and saw his tail taking off across the ridge top.

This is a nice study that captures well the alertness and caution of these animals. I can see her concentration on all sounds coming in those big ears.

Love this picture. The way you printed it really makes the deer stand out, and the tapestry of branches all around make for a stunning picture.
