At least it washes off. I remember seeing a picture from the 60s where the model was coated in used motor oil. They must have used a good few cans of Swarfega for clean up!

What makes this picture work for me is that her hands are clean.

"Before all the soft focus set in." ...

she should have had her index finger over the lips ...sort of saying "hushhhhhh"...

but then it would have ment something else.
