This is a very eye catching photo and I like how you retained detail in vertical faces of the broken earth. But at the same time the contrast across top of the earth is lacking impact. I just wonder is it impossible to have detail in the side faces and still manage to have a strong contrast in the top surface ? The other thing I notice is that you are using expired film and maybe the fault might lie there. Maybe the darkroom will reveal the true success of your shot.
Thanks for the comments. The surface layer was mostly a very fine textured, bland, light tan silt that I believe the yellow filter may have washed out any detail or reduced the contrast?
Maybe print a touch heavy and bleach a little to clear the highlights. Selenium toning will punch up the fine texture if there is anything there to work with - certainly worth experimenting. The depth and semi-regular ordering of the cracks is visually interesting.
