Cousins

These are my kids together with my sister's kids, and this print is gift for my sister this season. I made this portrait about three years ago, but never printed it... I sent her a high res scan, and she used one on a x-mas card.

Anyway... three years later (last summer), as a few of you may know, her older son, Jamie, was killed in a hit and run incident... he's the boy on the left. We were all devastated.

This picture... and a few others from this moment became very important to me, and I've finally printed them up properly to give to my sister and her family for Christmas. Sometimes, I neglect those pictures that I consider just the family snaps for the pictures that are, well... artier.

But more than anything, I wish I had made a few more pictures of Jamie on that trip.

Something similar unfortunately happened in my family. My wife's younger brother died several years ago from head injuries suffered in an accident. I had many shots of him that I had never printed but did after he was gone. It was nice to be able to do something like this for their family.
