Pomegranates, Old and New

This is my first real attempt at 4x5. Any suggestions especially from LFers? I had a 2 1/2 ev range and I wanted to expand this so I probably should have chosen another developer other than perceptol (it was the only thing I had at the moment), any ideas here? Thanks for looking!

I think its perfect. the reduced tonal range adds a feel that is well complimented by the reddy brown selenium tones and all complimentary to the subject.

I concur with Leon - this has been well executed and the tonality suits the image well. I'd take another and try to exclude the bowl to get a more graphic shot closer into the fruit - the end result might be that this image stands up better - just try cropping the image with your hands or card and see what you think! That said this is a great start to your L/F career and I wish you well on your exploration!

I see, this thing doesn't like greek.
I just said "Very nice! Enjoy your new path in good health!"

This is very pleasing to me. Both the tones and subject matter. I'm working on an oil painting of pomegranates for my wife (she loves them) and you've inspired me to make a photograph as well. Thanks

I like everything about the good tonal range and composition. I wonder why it is that rotting fruit makes such attractive photographs. It must appeal to our darker side.

I like the composition, but I could see why you might want a broader tonal range. If you've got a duplicate negative or maybe another version (and if you like the results, you can try it with the better version), you could try selenium toning the negative in Kodak Rapid Selenium Toner (1+3). About 8 minutes should punch up the highlights about one zone and might give you a little more breathing room in the midtones.

Thanks to you all for great comments. I'm not sure I'm finished with pomegranates yet so I'm sure I'll get a chance to work with this.
Gma- I know what you mean. I've been admiring Jose Martinez shots of the chicken slaughter house. Much more interesting than a simple portrait of a chicken:wink:
Thanks again,
James
