I promise that I will lay off the solitary tree subject for a while but this is an example of the encaustic work I am engaged in at the moment. I recessed the photo in a wood panel I made. I wanted to somehow reflect in the encaustic panel something of the photographic subject so I tried to make the wax surround something like the bark on the tree. There were a lot of wax layers built up to give a somewhat tactile or textured look (I hope). The actual work is a little darker than it seems on this image but I hope you get the effect. The photo is mounted on a panel and the overall piece is about 26" x 24". The photo was pasted onto a plywood panel and covered in pigmented encaustic wax also. Hope this work still counts for APUG and welcome any thoughts.
