My sister Martine, who passed away last Summer.
I now realize that I have taken far too few pictures of her. There's only a handful among my thousands of negatives, and of those only a few are decent.
I like this one. It's part of a series of three, taken November 1997. This is the only frame where she wasn't posing. The result is very much her, or at least the way I remember her.
Martine is fiddling with her binoculars, used for birding. There are many birds on the island of Schiermonnikoog (a National Park actually).
My sister went to say goodbye to this island a few days before she died. The place represented many of the good things in life to her.
