Counti In Studio

I travel--too much as I would have it. So another in the ongoing effort to get my daughters last month of living in the innocence of single digits down on tin/glass before these days are lost forever. Had one afternoon home before another extended road trip--only time for one go at it. Slightly underexposed but at 95 seconds I figured I was pressuring the sharpness God's just wee bit too much. As you can imgagine I love it anyway.

Wow. That's about the only intelligent thing I can say about that. That 20X24 stuff is a whole different sport that I know little about, but that there is a zinger. This is a real treasure for your family.

Very nice Monty... very nice! :D

I just noticed that this was in the critique section. My critique is that this is a beautiful portrait of youth. She is small in the frame, the 'world' stands before her and dwarfs her. I see a bit of fragility and tentativeness countered by confidence, inquisitiveness and a bit of defiance. She has the beauty of youth, but there is honesty in everything about her and the surrounding backdrop has similar honesty, but little beauty. There is a ton that I can read into the pose, the dress the hair... meaning maybe I'm projecting.

I can only imagine the technical difficulties of shooting a young model on a poured emulsion with a 20x24. My one and only knit would be that the dress is catching just enough more light to be a tad distracting, but it is a knit as in it is so small as to be inconsequential. I think it is so cool that its your kid, but the picture has great value without that knowledge.

It may seem like navel gazing, but this image and the one taken in the woods are stellar portraits and far better, in my mind, than the many that cover the same subject, but tend to be formulaic.
