You are getting mixed up again Dan, Summilux, not Summicron. Personally, If I was a goat I would have been willing to be at the end of the line or absent.
Are you arranging these objects or shooting them as found? Not that either approach is bad, you just have to accept the consequences of arranging if you are...
I'm wondering if a simpler background (either black or white) would help?
Will, I shoot them as I found. I was lucky 'cause they use the "petates" (floor mats made of palm leaves) to skin and cut the meat, few minutes latter, the mats were cover with blood and there were about 25 heads. I'll post some photos about the advance of the labor.
The idea of taking the heads to a kind of studio is good, I'll try it next season. It could be a "expresive" photo instead of a "documentary" one.
Once again, something a little unsettling and quite beautiful at the same time. If you persue Will's thought about a studio/still life approach with this type of imagery, then you should look at the work of Frederick Sommer.
Very , very interesting and unique. I like the textures and the way that the mats cover three corners to center and the upper right corner is a different texture. It really brings focus on the skulls. I'm glad this is not a color print.
