Lily Pads

Another one from my nature stage about 25 years ago. This was taken just after the sun set and was about a 60-second exposure. I was in chest waders in water that came up about a half-inch below the wader top and I had to hold perfectly still while the exposure was made to avoid motion caused by rippling water. I bracketed over the period of a half-hour or so.

The worst part was mosquitoes were terrible and I got eaten alive at this lake in the middle of the Upper Peninsula of Michigan. I couldn't swat them because that would move the water.

This is a scan of the original slide. I've attempted to match the color and saturation of the slide and a Cibachrome print I made from it years ago as best as I can. However, the digital version doesn't do the original justice.

absolutely stunning composition and color! your pain definitely paid off. This would make a teriffic print. thanks for sharing.

I love the color in this. I just want to eat it.

Beautiful image with wonderful color, I can only marvel at what the original print must be like for you to feel the scan doesn't do it justice.

I'm at my buddy's office and he wanted me to tell you these are not lilly pads, they are flat parachutes floating down from the sky! You were flying above them in a Helio Courier

Wow, Joe. This is intense- the colors and 3-D appearance. ... and yet, you continue to suffer outrageously for your art!

All the best,
Daniel
