Thomas I like the randomness of this image. I would burn the forground though. or maybe crop the bottom a bit. The image needs to take advantage of the great shape the frozen water makes. Course there goes the randomness.!
 
Great subject but both the foreground and the background distract the eye from what is truly magnificent in this photograph, the beautiful snow covered limbs "dancing" across the ice. I would get as close to them as possible and try to create an abstract with the limbs alone. The printing in that section is spot on. If you can't go back to this scene I think you could play with the cropping and pull a nice panoramic shot from the negative you have.
 
Bring the whole image foward untill the forground is almost gone or is gone for it competes with the trees in the ice.
 
I like this....personally this composition works quite well....I like how the very small tree spriggs in the bottom right nicely off set and balance the darker foliage in the upper left with the crossng trees.. I think you composed this wonderfully for the format of your Rollei....also it reminds me of wooded winter hunting scenes where I grew up in central Illinois
