Great expression on the girl and I like the out of focus dog in the background. It provides some good context. I would crop out the left side of the picture, at about the center of the church doors in the background. the large out of focus area doesn't add anything to the photo. then I would burn down the remaining part of the out of focus shirt and the top of the girl's hair to place the visual center back on the girl's face, where it belongs. I think you'll then have a much stronger image.
take care,
Tom

I disagree with Tom. The girl is looking at the man and even though he is very close and out of focus, even though we can barely identify him as a man, I believe he plays an importand role in the picture. Without him it would be just a portrait of a cute girl, but with him the story gets a bit more depth, it adds a question. He also helps with the balance of the strong upper darks and I like the curve of his shirt that frame wonderfully the girl inside a central square of highlights. Plus, with the four legged creature/object (?) at the right you get a play of perspectives that place the girl in the middle. Since I believe that the Canon you used does not have a square format, I applaud your cropping and composition. I would not have done better with an already square 6x6 camera.

thanks for the compliment arigram, i have to agree with you on this one. The girl is looking at a woman and the creature in the background is a dog. You are right about the Canon i cropped the picture to this format, it looked better that way.

A very interesting photograph nice job.....I love the expression on the girls face....joy, interest, a little sly, the eyes are wonderful, youth, age, fidelity, past , present and future,,,a lot of symbols fall together here,,,,,I wish I had taken that photograph.

Another vote for no cropping. If there is more of the woman on the left in the negative I would bring that in as well. It helps the picture tell a story. And the arch on the woman's shirt matches the arch in the background. The girl is foiled by the dog. A great street shot!

I like it just the way it is. The dog and the woman frame the girl nicely, and the whole image is balanced very well.
