Good shot. I like the regular alteration between dark and light.

I really like the drama. I might suggest bringing up the foreground bright areas a bit more than they show in this scan, offset perhaps by bringing down the left sky just slightly so that it is not completely white, but almost. I'd want to keep sufficient tone at that point so that the edge of the image is discernable. I do like the oppressive sky, so don't lose that feeling!

You know...when I first looked at this, I thought that was a wave about to crest. I was concerned that you had gotten knocked over by it in the next frame or so...
It is stark and beautiful. Yes, do bring up the foreground just a wee bit.

Iceland certainly has the most spectacular clouds I have ever seen. That is the one of the main things I get from looking at your picture.


Your picture essentially deals with the horizontal layers of light and dark tone, including the wonderfully-dark abstract shape created by the peak and hills. If the depiction of bleakness was your goal, I am afraid you have failed. This evokes a dramatic movement that is created by the rhythms of earth and sky.


The printing can definitely be improved. The midtones do not separate very well. So, you might try split-filter printing for better local contrast in the midtones while keeping the detail in the clouds. The left side is much too light compared to the right. The band of light earth does not flow smoothly and even ly across the picture. And as others have pointed out, the highlights are blown out in the left side of the sky. Also, try lightening something in the clouds on the right to balance the tones on the left. Try spotting the light spots (cars/buildings/dust) to the left of the peak. I think the dark areas should be left as they are.
