Ambrotype Portrait of Eddie

Ambrotype Portrait of Eddie

Here is a portrait I shot of my freind Eddie this last weekend. It is his mean face pose. Actually hes not so mean. We shot wet plate collodion. This is an Ambrotype (glass positive) 8x10. Pretty nasty pour for sure , but its one of my very first wet plate attempts. Let me know what you all thinkl....

Nasty pour, great portrait. I wonder if there's a connection?

You'll get the hang of the pouring part after a few more tries. It's easier than most people think. The hardest part for beginners is getting the exposure and development right. Often there is too much of both. This plate is overexposed quite a bit and possibly overdeveloped if the scan is anywhere close to the original plate. Too bad for you, you're hooked now!

I like how the bad pour interacts with the subject. Probably will not always work, but in this case, it does. Well done.
