Bertus....Being a Walraven, this gets me going. Very nice....I would get rid of the gentleman in the foreground and crop just above the bright stick in the middle lower part of the pic that is almost touching the river...............TW
I like it too. At first I thought get rid of the man in the foreground to simplify, but on revisiting the photo I think that he adds something unconventional and I also like the tension he provides. So don't crop!
wow, was it a frozen canal? I love it. Really nice atmosphere. I personally find the man in the foreground distracting. I'd crop it one third up so to make it even more landscape, to focus on the ice-skaters, and the converging perspective at the horizon.
Lovely photograph.
The frozen reed looks wonderful! I also find the man in the foreground somehow misplaced as his modern jacket contradicts to the timeless atmosphere of this shot. The rest of the composition is simply perfect!

All I could think about when I first saw this was reading "Hans Brinker and the Silver Skates" in my youth - more years than I care to think about. The scene itself is very well done, and my opinion, archtypical of the Netherlands. The gentleman in front doesn't seem to add anything to the scene.
Bert I would crop out the man as well. The photo looks so much better without him. Your vision will be drawn right through the photo from bottom to top making it a more satisfactory image.
