Part of a series that I am currently working on looking at vernacular buildings that have quirky designs or detailing. This is now a farm near to Kendal in Cumbria but was originally built as a fortified tower house in the C14th, and has later additions from the C15th, 16th and C17ths. The projecting chimneys are a good clue to its mediaeval origins and the round stacks are a local Westmorland feature. Pity about the render on the walls which is an early C20th attempt at keeping the prevailing westerly rains out!
