Bristlecone

From my trip last October to California. I love these bristlecone trees. This is one from the Agfa Ansco 5x7.

This is a straight scan - curious as to any thoughts on composition (or anything else of course)

I feel that your composition fails to capture the character of the tree. The cloud is too eye catching. Could you have waited for it to move on? The bushes in the background mask the starkness of the lower trunk. Although you have taken it from a low viewpoint the tree needs to break the skyline sooner, so IMO you were not low enough. Maybe taken from a different angle, you could have avoided the background clutter and entered the sky area sooner.

Of course I was not there to see under what restrictions you had to take the shot. I should add that the exposure and range of tones are excellent.

Cheers

Technically its outstanding,if the tree could be more separated from the foliage at the lower part of the picture , perhaps darkening the bushes. I like the sky.m.c.
