RB-66 about to retire

The RF-101-C replaced the RB-66 which was then retired. This was one of the last at Kadena and was about to return to the USA to be stored for a rainy day.

I don't remember taking this picture, but this print was here, buried in my files. I also have the technical manual for this plane and that is quite a big book!

Eric;

Thanks for the reference. I feel sorry for anyone having a problem in one of these.

Escape was a nightmare. The pilot and copilot had to leave their seats and open a manhole sized plate behind the copilot's seat (IIRC) and drop down through it. Not a speedy way to exit in an emergency. IDK what the 3rd crew member had to do. I would have to re-read the manual.

The pilots hated the RB66.

They had retired all of the RB66 series in SEA by early 1960. The faster Voodoo was all that we had in use in our areas of coverage by February 1960. We never did get the RF-101B promised us.
