For this series, I'm developing 4x5 sheet film, and scratching it with sandpaper. I then chisel out the image area(s) for the smaller negative(s)- in this one 35mm. The negatives are then laminated together, and printed. I bleach and tone with small sponges, on the image area only.
Thanks for the comments. I'm having a lot of fun with this project. It's really freed me up from the technical aspects of my usual 4x5 shooting. I like the way the chiseling creates a "faux" hand-coated emulsion feel. When I print them to 20x24, the images are about 5x7, and the scratched area gives them a contemporary feel, while the sepia/ "faux" hand-coated area has an antique feel.
