Lovatnet II (V. 2)

Lovatnet II (V. 2)

OK, this is my best effort from this weekend. Splitgrade alone did not help in separating between the island and the background but it let me apply the same trick as with "Rainy Day Island". I reduced the contrast of the background and raise the contrast of the island alone. Despite it has cost me a lot of paper, I am not sure whether this is a significant improvement. I still have another idea, I will try next time I am in the dark.

beautiful picture; your efforts in getting that tone separation are remarcable. thanks for sharing

Essentially it is not really a tone separation. It is merely a visual trick. The island has a little bit more definition than the rest of the picture. The effect works more like reducing DOF to focus on a subjekt.

In bigger size shadow details will be more obvious, thus giving more emphasis to this very beautiful and tranquil landscape picture.

Very nice, Ulrich.

okay first I am not that great yet. having my stumbling experiences getting my feet wet again in this craft after 25 years absense. having said that I think maybe this might help out. One thing I was trained in when it comes to painting landscapes is that the greatest definition and depth of color goes to foreground just as you did with the contrast, but also the foreground should be darker than the background. The further away you go, the less saturation in color and the less darkness and that really sets it off as duplicating the real scene in nature. so maybe next print you might burn in the left island a bit, and dodge the hill behind it somewhat. notice the other hills as you progress further back diminish in darkness. other than that helpful hint I want to say this is a really beautiful shot. the way you captured the angle makes me want to go disappear there. It seems to be better than what I can do at the moment with my old 35mm's and cheesy low quality enlarger.

A really reassuring landscape photograph, glimpsing me classic times past. Thanks

Nice shot, I might have shot with a blue filter to accentuate the feeling of distance, it would help tone separation in the shadows as well.
