'Nigella' seed capsule's, photographed with an old condenser taped onto the front of my lens. The capsules range in size; from just under two centimetres, to a little over an inch. The depth of field was razor thin, and the front of the lens an inch away from the flower at most.
Very nice shot. A question about your print tone - relating to my monitor calibration.
My monitor shows the print as deep brownish blacks and brownish/green mid-tones.
Does this come close to what I'm supposed to see? I suspect no green at all.
Thanks, Russ
Russ, it sounds close. I selenium toned to get rid of a natural green cast, but there is still a hint of it on the scan. The print is a little browner than this appears.
Ciaran, thanks. I'm not familiar with LD20. This is a print developer? Also, would you mind mentioning the selenium strength/time on this print? And - which Fomatone ---
131,132 or 542? I'm zeroing in on a warm tone brown result that I like with Ilford WT VC
and ID-78/1:3 - 1:6 and Selectol 1:1 - 1:4. Then selenium 1:40 @ 2min. Been reading about Fomatone being comparable but more brownish.
Thanks again, Russ
LD20 is a Lith print developer - it is made by Fotospeed, and depending on the dilution, exposure of the print and quantity of 'old brown', it can produce a phoenominal number of tones - just check out the other images I've posted from this series in the gallery. Same paper and chems, just different strengths of dev and exposure.
I am toning with Selenium at 1+19 - around 24c
It is the Glossy version
Ilford WT is probably my favourite paper - its lovely when split toned with sepia and selenium.
Do expect the tones produced to vary quite considerably, based on the developer you are using. And especially if going between Lith and more conventional Dev's.
