An oldie that I've posted before. As I've posted a few from a more recent Skye trip I thought I'd rescan this on my new scanner - much truer to the original trannie second time around..!
It might be a well-photographed scene, but this is very different to any I've seen before. The sunlit rocks with the dark mountains is fantastiv. The vertical format works well, too.
Thanks for taking the time to comment, much appreciated.
Annemarieke - I started off using colour transparencies, and liked the tonal range and detail. When I started shooting b+w I used Scala to try and replicate this experience but was frustrated with its very narrow image latitude, even when I 'balanced' the exposure with ND Grads. I found out about dr5, who reverse process most b+w films as transparencies using a proprietary process, see http://www.blackandwhiteslide.com/Filmreview.html
Dr5 offers me control I could never have with Scala, and gives me a range of films to use at different speeds and for different effects. All my b+w work is reverse-processed.
Rob, I didn't mean to criticize. You're right, Gavin's take on Elgol is entirely different to any I have seen before. I love how he used that slab of rock at the base of the image.
