Cow

This was my first outing with the 18-35 Nikon zoom. I had a yellow filter on and it caused some vignetting (sp?) which can be seen in the the lower right corner.

I also forgot to set the meter to 64 from the 100 DX reading until after this shot, so it did not get enough exposure for the development I gave it. Thus the shadows are a bit weak and it is a real pain to print.

Despite all of the problems this is one of my favorite images. Many members of my family have also asked for copies. What do the rest of you think? Do the tecnical problems detract from the image?

I wouldn't see technical problems, but I do see a very playful composition. I think it is striking image. I like that the playfullness of the bull is in contrast to the dilapitated structure behind it.

Thanks for the comments guys. The cow, or bull - I never did check, was the only one that was friendly out of the group. I suspect they don't see many people on this back road. All the others ran to the back when I approached and watched me, but I got quite a few shots of this animal.

The lens came through OK though I did need to clean a bit of crud off the filter when I was done. I wasn't used to how close you can get with an 18mm lens and still seem like you are many feet away.

Hi. Larry.
I have been browsing through the files posted about a year ago when I came upon your picture. I searched for a reason to support any appreciation of it's content.
It is one of those type of pictures that totally fail to conform to the artistic values but which can stand alone, be noticed and approved for it's sheer humour and more to the point - truthfullness. Stan. L-B
