Gnarly Trees

Gnarled trees on the road into Camp Oakes YMCA camp just outside of Big Bear City. I worked this negative over several times last night but still can't seem to do it justice, but this was the best I could get on Ilford VC RC Satin. Would welcome any info on what variety of trees these are because there is a whole grove of these along this road.

I've never used RC satin preferring RC glossy for a harder look. I don't think a red filter is needed so try an orange one instead. In printing try for a harder grade working up 1 grade at a time. The picture needs more impact so experiment with the printing grades. Your composition is fine and you seem to have a verity of shots to take there.

Thanks TEX. I am probably over-using the red filter. I definitely will give the orange a try. I tried pre-flashing the paper and dodging the tree a bit, which did help, but still couldn't quite get the impact that the negative looks like it should deliver.
