Industrial Building - 12x20 Pt/pd print

Fantastic, Matt! I think the extremely bright and crisp highlights help give this fine composition a lot of impact visually. This feels absolutely right in its framing. One of my favorites of yours. Great work!

just wonderful work. the image is well balanced and a pleasure to look at. the tones in the Pt/PD print are prefect. I'm so impressed by your use of the 12x20 camera. in a world where even the best photographers are using smaller cameras and making 12x20 digital images, I like seeing the truth. any time you use a digital image to have the ability to remove this, and add that and even though you say you won't it happens. Dan B. just made a commit of this sort in his article in Photo tech (He embraces it). So to see you out there with the big one ( and I have trouble with my 8x20) and getting these great shots is outstanding. keep it up. Everyone should have to try a ULF camera at least once, to know the sweat and pain that goes into one shot. You can't tell someone and have them understand, you have to do it to know what is is like. try it in 95 deg 90% hum. and mosquitoes all over you. It becomes a real challenge.

The negative for this was one of those rare occasions when I was truly excited and eager to print it. The films rendering of the metallic surfaces really seemed to glow on the print. Very nice to hear that people enjoy it as well.
Oddly enough this is one of those rare instances when what I "see" emotionally seems to have been successfully captured and conveyed in print.
I sized another copy of this print along with many others this morning and am looking forward to doing some gum bichromate colored layers over it to see how it compares with the straight pt/pd.

I love such industrial themes. Yours is particularly good. It brings out the subtle tonalities of this great example of urban decay.

I agree about the glow - there are parts of this that really have a special feel because of it. This has an interesting balance, and the level of detail in the features - conduits, doors, ex-windows, etc. - really give it a sense of place. I noticed that you mentioned this in another print you have in the gallery, and the feeling that this creates always pulls me in as well. I'd love to see the actual print in person, as well as the colored versions.
