This is my favorite of the 3. The line of her leg along with her averted gaze are winners all the way around. I also like the detail gained in the lighter upper background as opposed to the all black backgrounds.
Outstanding all the way around.
best,
Monty
ps did you feel like you were cheating on your home made cameras with that hussy of a store bought Calumet?
Monty, thanks your comments mean a lot. I agree that this image is the strongest. I was not sure when I printed it.
These images were taken at a workshop that Gustavo Castilla put on the end of June. Dan Dozer and I had to use the camera that was set up. I wanted to use some of my glass but the boards for my Seneca 8x10 are too small for this beast. Nice camera for the studio. I think my 11x14 is lighter! I can't wait to try this with my 11x14. Need to spend some more time with the 8x10 first to sort things out.
Jim,
The skin tones seem a little dark on my screen is this the look you were looking for?
Also I see you are using J&C film is this left over from when they were in business. I have 3-4 boxes of 8x10 efke 100 I bought from them before they closed.
P.S. I really love the shot, the way you have her posed and looking back is really nice.
I agree that it looks a little on the dark side to me, but it doesn't spoil it. I think it appeals to our (learned?) appreciation of angles and straights and curves, while a triangular shape always seems pleasing to me. Fine shot.
Thanks everyone. I liked this one the best of the three because it had the tones I was after. The neg is underexposed and I may have pulled the development a little. Quite possible some problem with this sheet of film. I do love the look of the J&C 200. It is left over stock. This is a test print and I need to work on a final.
