Michigan Central Station

This print is 3 11x14 color prints, overlapped and mounted onto Sintra. The final piece is 16"x48". The actual digital photo is unfortunately low quality - it was taken while the piece was hanging in the gallery on the wall.

The image was captured with a Mamiya RZ67 onto Fuji 160c. This is the lobby of the Michigan Central Station in downtown Detroit. This station is the sister of Grand Central in NYC - the only other station designed by the same architectual team.

I might add that I like the uneven borders of the print and how you left both sides of the image “open.”

jbannow,
Your work looks like it has been under the influence of Michigan's best photography teacher: Rob Kangus.

Nice work regarless.

Thanks for the good words everyone. This print was indeed made in the lab at OCC Royal Oak, under the tutelage of Rob Kangas. He is a great teacher and a nice guy as well.

Excellent work. This is my favorite probably because it's so reminiscent of roman ruins. What are they doing with this place?

Tell him I said hey the next time you see him. He is a great guy and and an excellent teacher.

The station has been completely abandoned for over 20 years. Right now, about the only thing the station is being used for (other than a site for photographers and the homeless) is for Hollywood - Transformers and The Island both used the lobby as a set. We are hoping that it will be renovated and put to some good use - it's still a gorgeous building.
