Attracted by the patterns formed by the muddy tracks made by cattle and the semi circular path they formed passing through the gateway in the angled wall. Striking lighting helped pick out the main elements but is it successful as a composition?
I think this is a very nice composition/image. My eye wanders all over focusing on the many subtle details. One suggestion I have, and it may be due to the scan, is that I would burn the sky in the center of the image above the wall just a bit to get the color a little closer to the corners so your eye doesn't want to meander off the top center of the image.
Nice job - a really original image, and I agree with all the above comments. Have you tried getting a few more dark values on the face of the stone wall to bring out it's texture? Maybe a little burning at grade 5 to show the cracks without darkening it too much. Don't know, just maybe worth a try if it doesn't spoil the feeling of light the image has.
I feel that the 45mm lens would have been a better choice. The left hand side of the photo from where the wall is whole again struggles for visual attention. To use your 30 mm lens requires you to to alter the present composition and have a more dominant subject in the near foreground.
I love working with the XPAN and it provides a constant challange to my composition abilities.
Keep up the good work.
