Nice, the self-conscious look of these girls, yet still feeling spontaneous enough. Do you have more pictures of this orphanage? Might make an interesting reportage. Would be nice to see some more.
Thank you, yes I have more. Loads more and not really sure what to do with them all or where to start! Went into this trip/project just wanting to "see" and now I have a very moving story in photographs needing to be organized and printed. And then seen.
I figure should start with pulling the best 25 or so and working on refining and printing to try and get an exhibit or place for them.
As for this one, the girl in the front has a twin sister who is the complete opposite of her. This little sister was so shy and never wanted to let go of the woman's hand (worker in the orphanage). Both sisters are up for adoption and are coming to the states this summer to be hosted. They will stay together and have a chaparone (from the orphpanage) close by. This is the only image I have of her where she gave me a moment of trust. I was completely amazed during this trip of the strength of these children. They are the silver lining in a very bleak surrounding.
Some members of my family adopted two kids from the Ukraine, a brother and a sister. It was quite a long and expensive episode to get it done right, but the kids are now in very good circumstances and because of they are a pair they can retain their language and some cultural identity.
