Birthday Invitation

I made an altogether too short trip to visit my grandmother in Switzerland in her new place. She turned 99 two days after this picture, and she's looking at the invite we had made up for a party we threw for her.

The picture on the invite is of her and her brothers as children dressed as clowns.

Sadly, I had to head home, and miss the actual party. My son was in a play that night, but I am glad to have seen her, and made a few photographs even if it was too quick.

not yet... too impatient... wanted to share before I made a print!
Great portraits Suzanne. Out of the two, this is my favorite. I really like the focus on the card and OOF yet recognizable face. It makes your grandmother look like she is reflecting on a full and memorable life as she looks at the card.

Don't you just love the hands, the voices, the faces of old people. I think this image is really lovely! I visited with my elderly, sick uncle on Saturday. His very-longtime friend was visiting too and I spent the time drinking in their voices, their inflections, their stories.

I told my husband one day (when I saw an old fellow walking) that I loved the stature of old men. He said, "oh good, that gives us something to look forward to!".

Each portrait for me expresses something different. Here maybe a hint of a memory touching her face, maybe also because of the context of the photo in the card. The other is full of life. I hope I look half as good at 99 ;-) Love them both. K
