SKX panorama

I really like this shot. I did'nt think that the Ilford SFX could be that good.Did you scan the print?

Yes, this is a scanned 'work' print. It's just a diddy at 5x7"! I was impressed with my results this time. I'd used SFX before but never got such a tonal range. Maybe it was the dilute development?

I really like it & I do not have a problem with the 'trimmed' tree! I might have positioned the tree a wee bit to the right side of the print, but other than that, it's great!

Tonally this looks very good. It's quite a gentle effect but distinctly different from non extended red sensitivity films. When I lasted used SFX it was only a wratten 25 red filter and while the skies were good, the white leaf(so called wood) effect so apparent in Kodak HIE was completely missing as was only to be expected. It's difficult to tell how much of this effect is present on the leaves as there aren't that many as it still early in the year. Does the SFX filter show real potential for producing this white slightly feathery effect?

Secondly how much grain is present on the print at 5x7? Like you, I used ID11 and I think at 1+1 and I was a little disappointed about how much the grain showed. So much so that I need to explore the benefits of other developers if I try again

On the plus side it is a gentler effect than HIE which is almost over the top and as I understand it handheld shots at about 1/30th and f5.6 are just about possible as your exposure would seem to confirm.

I used this film once before in high summer and got an appreciable 'white leaf' effect but, for some reason, my prints seemed a lot grainier than the above examples despite using the same process. The 5x7 does show some grain but printing 'hard' as I did, this was inevitable. I think that SFX filter or a similar type is required to get the best effect. On this occasion I rated it at box speed (200asa).

Another very good image - you've certainly convinced me to try SFX in any case.
