This took quite a bit of dodging and burning to get done. I would like your sincere opinions, on both the photograph itself and the way it is printed.

Beautiful and intense, a most original photograph the old harbor!

Nice shot! I love Chania. My grandparents on my dad's side are from Malaxa in the mountians above Chania. We visited Greece in 2003 and Chania was our favorite place.

Firephoto, Andrew, Ari, thank you very much.

D. Wolf, I've compared it to a neutral one so far. I like the neutral too, but it seems to be lacking something that the sepia toned one has. That's the element of surprise when you first see the photograph... I'll try your advice and burn the lower edges, it should help with the lighthouse & airline grabbing attention.

Kerik -- I have met you in Hybrid, when I was introducing myself. Haven't checked the website since, as I was really busy in the darkroom. How about visiting Crete for a workshop?

I'm afraid I don't like the toning and I think a straight B&W Glossy RC print would have more impact. Also I feel that you should have used a yellow or orange filter on your camera to bring out the clouds from the sky.

Tex,

thank you for the suggestions. But could you please explain why you don't like the toning and how a glossy RC [!] print would have more impact?

-Sino.

Looks like a once in a long while moment. Very very nice.

Sino,
This is just my opinion but sometimes I think a B&W photo should be presented as it is printed. The sky is quite dramatic but because you have tone the print, it is the toning effect that strikes the viewer frist then the content. To my eyes the content is playing second fiddle to the toning effect.
If you wanted to use the print in an exhibition I would suggest that you print it on a gloss RC paper ,it would add to the impact value of it.
Again just my opinion.
Cheers
TEX
