Yosemite Falls creek.

Yosemite Falls creek.

This is from my trip to Yosemite at the end of Feb. I was working my way through the snow north up the the creek. I was drawn to the patterns of the fallen trees. I had to wait for the people to pass on the bridge in the background before I exposed the neg. The neg has a great tonal range and the print is better than the scan.

Jim, this is of the highest quality for composition, it looks like it was well exposed and developed too. There is an "S" curve in there, I didn't see it right away, it has many areas of interest within the composition, this is a photograph that one can look at and come back over and over without loosing interest. Some have that seen it once and your done value but this one is a keeper, in more ways than one.

Is your Gerogon in a shutter I have one too? I also have the Seneca 8x10, I just put a new bellows on it and it's in perfect shape, do you have the lever on the back that acts as a bale, I had to remake mine. Great work going on there, keep it up.

Curt, thanks for the comments. I'm very happy with this image. It is one of my finest I feel. There is so much going on it is very overwhelming at first. There are images upon images with repeating patterns in the reflections that don't show on the monitor.
I have the 12" and 14" Gerogon. Neither are in a shutter. I use the 12" on the 8x10 and the 14" on the 8x20 and they are great lenses. Sharp as hell and good contrast. I use Efke 25 a lot and I don't need a shutter for most of my shots. I think the shortest exposure on this trip was 5 seconds. When I stop down it eliminates the need for a shutter. I have a Packard for the 8x10 if I need a shutter. I like these lenses as they have 67mm and 77mm filter threads and I can use my Lee system with the 12". I have to put filters for the 14" on the back of the lens or I just hold it in front.
My Seneca does not have the lever and I've always wondered what that thing did. Nice to know, thanks for the info. My bellows are a little stiff and I will need to redo them at some point but they don't leak at the present time. They are nice light weight 8x10's.

I'm afraid the macrophile in me makes it impossible to appreciate the whole scene like I do the other photos you posted: the striations in the snow are really fascinating and I wonder if you worked in closer to those.

Again, a very nice treatment of a wide range of tones.

Keith there was so much going on here I almost wished I had a zoom lens for the 8x10! I was perched above the creek on a snow bank and I was really close to the edge. There are a couple of small branches in the foreground that I was trying to eliminate but I couldn't get high enough. I was tempted to try and get out on the fallen trees as I saw many, many additional compositions. I would have gotten very wet! The shadows are rich with texture that doesn't show on the screen. If I would of had the 645 I would have exposed at least two rolls here. It was an amazing scene and the light was beautiful.
