This is a print from a negative taken at Bill Schwabs first APUG gathering in 2006. I still have a stack of negatives to go through from this beautiful area.
Thanks everybody. Regarding the brightness...how? and the why?. How...the light from the setting sun was hitting the water creating a bright shimmer. The base exposure of 28 seconds was done at grade 5 (170 magenta setting on my saunders enlarger) which kept the lake practically white. The sky was burned in at the horizon using a strait card for 42 seconds at grade 2 (or whatever grade the 45 yellow setting is on my enlarger). Then I took the negative carrier out of the enlarger and flashed the whole print at 0 (white light setting) for .3 seconds. This created nice even tonality in the lake and added density to the blown out highlights in the moving tidal pools.
Why did I do it this way??? Because it looks cool....I don't know..we all interpret things differently at the printing stage I guess.
