I posted a version of this image earlier this evening but I've now downloaded Vuescan and by using a 16 pass scan and 2x binning I've managed to remove the shadow noise and improve the contrast and brightness to better reflect the transparency. Hopefully, you'll agree that this one looks better. The standard HP scanning software was hopeless!
Whatever "16 pass scan and 2x binning" is, it did a fine job on your scan. If this is a true a representation of what your transparency looks like, it's one very fine photograph. If it's a lot of PS work, well....that would not be a good thing.
I like the foreground on this one, but the mountain in the distance looks a (metric) tad washed out compared to your earlier scan. Still a beautiful image though. I must add that this scan has picked out the greens and russets of the trees and fellside in the middle distance wonderfully.
John, the only PS involved was sharpening and image re-sizing, the rest was just using Vuescan to get a better scan. This is a pretty accurate representation of the transparency although the contrast range is a bit too high for the scanner which leaves either for foreground too dark or the sky too light, but without spending loads of time combining two scans I can't get a better facsimilie than this.
