Alex, do you find, as I do, that Classic 400 cannot build enough contrast to work with new G2?

I have a mixed feeling with J&C 400 and Grade 2. It seems to hover on the border line between grade 3 and grade 2. My other post tonight was done on grade 2. As I was printing these I thought next time, I will give it one more stop of exposure; effectively shooting it at 200 vice 400.

I still like the tonality of grade 3, so I prefer to use it all I can.

Hi Alex, I just picked up the book "Photographs & Words by Wright Morris. A friend from photo.net suggested I give it a look. It reminded me of your pictures so I thought I'd look for you to see how your large format is working out. Looking Good!
Anyhow, this building is in that book. Being from Kansas I'm sure you're aware of that. It looks as though a few things were added since the Morris days. Neverthe less, still an interesting subject & you treat it well. This site is way better suited for you, as there's not all the PS manipulation. Nice composition.

I have a question. On my screen I'm seeing detail in the rail straight ahead and then as it goes to the left it gets very dark. Same thing is happening on the pile of rail. Even the gravel appears to gain in density as it goes to the left. IS this something from the scan? or is it in the negative/print? Or am I completely in left field on this on and I'll just chalt it up to my monitor.

The far sides are slightly darker than in the middle, but on the print, there is still texture and detail. If you look on the far right background, you can make out the back side of a privy (yep, there's still a few in use). On the print, some texture is discernable but on the print, it looks shadowed. My scanner seem to accentuate these changes. I'll never by an HP scanner again.
