Dave Miller's comment has reminded me to mention something I've only noticed since moving to a LCD flat screen. If I move the picture to anywhere but the very bottom of the screen, it darkens. I was in the habit of doing this on my old VDU so I could see both the picture and the info details but find if I do this now then the darkening effect reduces some dark shadows to a featureless shadow. It does with this one but if I keep it on the very bottom of the screen then there is quite clear detail in the centre of the flower.

This may not be the answer to Dave's comment, its just that this particular shot is such a good example of the centre going featureless if the shot isn't hard down on the bottom of my screen.

Lovely. I'd never noticed the effect pentaxuser describes, but he's right. There is detail in the middle if I move it to the bottom of my (LCD) screen, and none elsewhere. I can't believe I've never noticed this before.

I so love this. So beautiful and it will never wilt!
