This photograph was taken during the gathering at Bill Schwab's place in northern Michigan in June. A bunch of us were working this lovely familiar scene, but were ushered out as the light settled. A very inspiring place.

An interesting photograph. I love your work, Daniel. There is very powerful counterpoint here. The pier remnants comprise the area of strongest contrast which pulls the eye to them immediately, but the greater volume of the lower part of the picture, and its secondarily strong contrast tugs the eye there as well. What's so good about that is the much greater engagement I have with it. It sets up a rhythm and keeps it going. Wonderful work from such simple elements!

hey Daniel , great image...very pleasing to admire...I tool like the effect of the simple elements and there juxtaposition...

Daniel - Wow! It must have been a productive outing to Schwab's place for you. Very very nice.

Thank you all for the kind comments. As Bill mentioned in his recent gallery posting, this area rewards repeated visits with its shifting light and moods.

John, your observations regarding the contrapuntal relationships in the photograph are greatly appreciated. I've been trying to create photographs with a greater sense of interplay between the various components- a paradoxical dynamic between static objects in a static media. Usually, an interesting sky contributes to this effect, but we had clear almost cloudless skies that night.

Ian, "Why is the top section Pink?" Must be because I took the photograph at sunset . Seriously, after toning in thiocarbamide the print has a light brownish/golden tone in the highlights, but the scan has introduced a slightly reddish hue. I have not attempted to adjust or correct this color cast.

All the best,
Daniel

Very nice Daniel

I never tire of photographs of this area. Its great to see it through different photographers eyes (or lenses) and this is up there with the finest I have seen.

Quality Daniel, quality.

Regards

Stoo
