Excellent shot of a truly beautiful engine. The burnt out sky on the top right is a little distracting but the clock is a nice inclusion. Trains are such good subjects for B&W.
Cheers, Tony
It was a very bright but cloudy day so I can't do much about the sky. This area and the light coloured roof had a serious amount of burning in just to get the limited amount of detail it has now!
There is slightly more highlight detail on the print than the scan as would be expected - but not that much more.
I have had another go at the scan to try to get a bit more highlight detail. It is probably at the expense of some shadow detail but it does more closely resemble the print now (about as much as a PC screen can).
I have a theory. Black, more or less shiny, is a rare occasion in nature. I have a feeling that's why we're so fascinated by it. You see it in eyes of animals, crows and ravens, some insects, and wet rocks. I can't think of any other occurrences.
I find this engine very nicely captured. Very nice!
