In the quaint and irresistible town of Beacon, there is a stream that tumbles over these falls and plunges downstream past the relics and remnants of bygone factories and other industrial structures. I have come to this particular spot repeatedly with my 4x5, 6x7 and now the 6x6 format cameras. I'm really enjoying everything about the square format of the C220 that I've had longer than any other camera I use. I've neglected it for much too long.
Thank you all for your kind and constructive comments. I agree that leaving out a bit or more of the bottom would be a successful crop, but what Tony Egan observed is what I intended the little reflection on the bottom to do. Since the eye is much more strongly pulled to the area of greater contrast at the bottom of the falls, I think the much more subdued water above it contributes more than distracts.....but to each their own! :0
Michael, the "frame" is made in PS by:
1. Click on 'select all' which gives you 'marching ants' around the image perimeter. Click on 'stroke' in the Edit menu. Select the color of border you want (I chose a light gray to simulate the thickness of a mat) and make it 3 to 5 pixels or so wide. Then 'deselect'.
2 In the Image menu, choose 'canvas size'. I chose 150 pixels for width and height. Be sure the BG color is what you intend...I chose white. Then click Okay.
3. Finally, choose 'select all' again. Go to 'stroke' in the Edit menu, and choose the number of pixels you want to the 'frame' to be (I chose 5 I think), and change the color to black. Click Okay and then 'deselect'.
4. Pour yourself three fingers of 'falling down water' (Les's term...I love it), sit back and relax!
