Old look with Efke 25

I shot this with Efke 25 . I tried to use the zone feature on my spotmaster, whatever it did I like the look :-)

What strikes me is the way it could have been taken 40 or more years ago (the dress of the people in shot helps - they do dress like that around here still). This is a wonderful film IMHO but your views ?

CJB, yes, have to agree about the old look and feel in the shot. The crumbling stucco, peeling paint and run down look all help give a look of "oldness" in the image.

This is a wonderful film, once you get a handle on development times. I've found that with Efke 25, the more dilute and the slower the development, the better the print. Curious about the film speed you chose for this one? tim

If you are really interested in this film try shooting with a red filter (cuts it down to ISO 6 or so!!) and developing it in Neofin Blau. That will give you a stunning old-style look.

They dress like that around here also. In fact it could just as easily be the wife and I on our way to J.D Wetherspoon for our cheap morning capuccino.

More seriously what defines the old look to the print in the opinion of the originator and above two contributors, or anyone else who uses it?

Thanks

Pentaxuser:

What gives it an old look, IMO, is that too many buildings of that age have been taken down and replaced with something new. At least, that's what they do here in the upper left corner of the US. I keep looking for buildings like this so they can be preserved on film before they are gone.

I use Efke 25 roll film in my Bronica S2A and other medium format cameras. I develop the film in Rollo Pyro in the Jobo. I'm up to 8.5 minutes and can go longer. Actually, what I'll do next weekend is run an exposure test and calculate my own EI, optimal development time, and contact print exposure/time so I can stop futzing around.

I'm sure the print itself has characteristics that do not display on my LCD monitor, and it is even more appealing in real life. Nice work, CJB.

I shot the 25 at stated speed (i.e 25) and developed at the times from digitaltruth. rs I'd be fascinated to see your results - and the contrast on the print has to be seen 'in the flesh' can't get a scan to replicate it.

The old fashioned look is also something to do with the quality of light on the print from this film - difficult to explain but once you see a print you know what it is.

Pentaxuser I'd really recommend getting a roll or two from retrophotographic - use the money you sabe at Wetherspoons

Cheers CJB
