This is the only operating suspension bridge on a state highway in Arkansas. Located at Beaver, Arkansas, in Carroll County, this bridge is held in very high regard by the locals, who consider it a major scenic object in their environment. On the national register of Historic Places, the bridge is in use, and will be preserved. Constructed in 1947, the bridge is a single lane bridge with a wooden deck. As a car drives across it, you can see it flex in the middle, which is normal for this type of bridge. The road to the bridge is called Golden Gate, and many local residents call this the "Little Golden Gate" bridge, in reference to the Golden Gate suspension bridge in San Francisco. At one time the state highway department wanted to build a new modern bridge and replace this, and there was such an uproar from people from all surrounding areas that they abandoned this idea. The state has decided to just maintain this bridge.
